Myreton Motor Museum

About

Myreton Motor Museum, set just outside Aberlady, is one of East Lothian’s most charming and characterful small museums. Founded in the 1960s, it reflects decades of passionate collecting and offers an intimate look at motoring history far removed from the scale of national institutions. Its atmosphere is part of the appeal: stepping inside feels like entering a carefully preserved time capsule of British transport. The museum’s core collection features vintage and classic cars ranging from early 20th‑century models to mid‑century favourites. You’ll find elegant pre‑war saloons, quirky microcars and sturdy post‑war family vehicles, each displayed with period details that evoke their era. Motorcycles and bicycles add further depth, illustrating how personal transport evolved across generations. One of the most interesting aspects is the variety of memorabilia—petrol pumps, enamel signs, tools, manuals and garage equipment that recreate the look and feel of old workshops. These objects give context to the vehicles and highlight the culture surrounding motoring, from early road safety campaigns to the rise of petrol stations.
