Dornier Museum Friedrichshafen

About

Located next to Friedrichshafen Airport on the shores of Lake Constance, the Dornier Museum is one of Germany’s premier aerospace museums. Dedicated to the pioneering achievements of aircraft designer Claude Dornier and his company, the museum tells the story of more than a century of aviation and space exploration. Its striking building resembles a giant aircraft hangar, immediately setting the stage for an exciting journey through engineering history. Inside, visitors can explore nearly 400 exhibits that showcase the evolution of flight, from early seaplanes to modern aerospace technology. Among the highlights are twelve original aircraft, including rare Dornier models that helped shape aviation during the twentieth century. Full-scale replicas of the historic Dornier Merkur and Dornier Wal provide a fascinating look at the golden age of air travel and exploration. The museum is particularly famous for its exhibits on innovation and adventure. Visitors can learn about the legendary Dornier Do X, once one of the largest flying boats ever constructed, and discover how Dornier engineers contributed to advances in passenger transport, military aviation, and scientific research. Original engines, aircraft components, photographs, and multimedia presentations bring these achievements to life.
