Virpazar Old Bridge

About

Virpazar’s Old Bridge is one of the town’s most charming landmarks, arching gracefully over the meeting point of the Crmnica River and Lake Skadar’s channels. Built in the 19th century, it served as the main link between the market town and the surrounding villages, becoming a vital crossing for traders bringing wine, fruit, and grain to Virpazar’s bustling waterfront. One interesting fact is that the bridge was constructed without metal reinforcements—its stability relies entirely on traditional stone masonry and the precision of its arches. Walking across it today feels like stepping into a postcard. The bridge offers beautiful views of the lake’s wetlands, fishing boats, and the old stone houses that line the shore. Its slightly uneven surface and low parapets preserve the authentic feel of a rural Balkan crossing. At sunrise and sunset, the reflections of the arches in the water create one of Virpazar’s most photographed scenes.
