Midland Air Museum, located beside Coventry Airport, is one of the Midlands’ most engaging aviation collections, shaped by the city’s long history of aircraft design and engineering. Founded in the 1960s by local enthusiasts, it has grown into a substantial open‑air and indoor museum with more than 40 aircraft and thousands of artefacts. A highlight is the Sir Frank Whittle Jet Exhibition, dedicated to the Coventry‑born inventor of the jet engine. His early prototypes, test equipment and personal items reveal how his revolutionary ideas transformed global aviation. The museum also holds rare Cold War aircraft, including the Avro Vulcan, Gloster Meteor, Hawker Hunter and a striking MiG‑21, offering a vivid look at the technological rivalry of the era. Visitors can step inside several cockpits, explore engines, missiles and radar systems, and examine detailed models that chart the evolution of flight. The Argosy cargo aircraft is particularly popular for its walk‑through fuselage, giving a sense of the scale and noise of military transport aviation. Inside the main hall, displays cover civilian aircraft, local aerospace companies, uniforms, instruments and memorabilia from pilots and engineers.
