Littlehampton Museum offers a warm, community‑focused portrait of this seaside town, blending archaeology, social history and coastal heritage in a series of well‑curated galleries. Housed in the 18th‑century Manor House, the museum feels intimate yet surprisingly wide‑ranging, with collections that trace local life from prehistoric settlement to the rise of Littlehampton as a Victorian holiday resort. Inside, visitors can explore displays of Roman pottery, Saxon tools and medieval finds uncovered along the Arun Valley. The “Life by the Sea” gallery is a highlight, showcasing ship models, fishing gear and stories of the town’s maritime trades. Victorian seaside memorabilia—colourful posters, bathing machines and early souvenirs—capture the charm of Littlehampton’s resort era. The museum also holds an impressive collection of local photographs, offering a vivid timeline of changing streets, fashions and industries. One of the most interesting facts is the presence of artefacts linked to the nearby Climping archaeological sites, including rare Bronze Age items that reveal early settlement patterns. Another standout is the gallery dedicated to local artists, celebrating the town’s creative community.
