Chapel Bay Fort and Museum is one of Pembrokeshire’s most intriguing military heritage attractions, located on the spectacular coastline near Angle at the entrance to Milford Haven Waterway. Built in the 19th century as part of a network of coastal defenses, the fort was designed to protect one of Britain’s most important natural harbours from potential naval attack. Today, it offers visitors a fascinating insight into the technology, strategy, and daily life of coastal defense forces. Inside the museum, visitors can explore a wide range of military exhibits that tell the story of the fort and its role in defending the coastline. Displays include historic weapons, uniforms, communication equipment, ammunition, and personal artifacts connected to the soldiers who served here. Detailed information panels explain how the fort's guns were operated and how military technology evolved over time. One of the highlights of a visit is the opportunity to see the restored gun emplacements and underground magazines where ammunition was stored. These areas provide a vivid impression of the scale and complexity of Victorian coastal fortifications. Interactive exhibits help bring the site to life, allowing visitors to better understand the challenges faced by the garrison during periods of military readiness.
