Cosmeston Medieval Village

About

Cosmeston Medieval Village is one of the most immersive historical attractions in the Vale of Glamorgan, offering visitors the chance to step back into the 14th century and experience life in a reconstructed medieval settlement. Located within Cosmeston Lakes Country Park near Penarth, the village was created following archaeological excavations that uncovered the remains of a genuine medieval community that existed on the site centuries ago. Unlike a traditional museum, Cosmeston Medieval Village allows visitors to walk through a living reconstruction of the original settlement. Inside, visitors can explore authentic timber-framed houses, workshops, a village hall and agricultural buildings, all carefully recreated using evidence discovered during excavations. Every structure has been designed to reflect how ordinary people lived during the Middle Ages. One of the most fascinating aspects of the village is its attention to historical detail. Furnishings, tools and household items help bring medieval daily life to life, showing how people cooked, worked, farmed and traded. Costumed interpreters often demonstrate traditional crafts and skills, providing an engaging insight into the routines and challenges of medieval society.
