Treborth Botanic Garden

About

Nestled on the shores of the Menai Strait near Bangor, Treborth Botanic Garden is one of Wales’s most diverse and fascinating botanical attractions. Owned by Bangor University, this 18-hectare garden serves as a living laboratory for education, conservation, and research while remaining freely open to visitors. Surrounded by woodland and coastal scenery, it offers a unique mix of natural habitats and plant collections rarely found in a single location. One of the garden’s most interesting features is its remarkable variety of landscapes. Visitors can explore native woodland, species-rich grasslands, ponds, orchards, managed borders, and even a rocky shoreline habitat along the Menai Strait. The Wales Coast Path passes through the grounds, offering beautiful views of the water and the famous Menai bridges. The garden is particularly well known for its six specialist glasshouses. These house fascinating collections of tropical plants, orchids, cacti, succulents, carnivorous plants, and species from South Africa and the Canary Islands. The Tropical House contains lush vegetation and banana plants, while the Orchid and Carnivorous Houses showcase some of the most unusual plants in the collection.
