Favorite Palace Rastatt

About

Favorite Palace is one of Germany’s most enchanting Baroque treasures. Built between 1710 and 1727 for Margravine Sibylla Augusta of Baden-Baden, this elegant summer residence was designed as a place for leisure, hunting parties, concerts, and lavish court celebrations. Today, it is celebrated as Germany’s oldest surviving “porcelain palace” and one of the finest preserved pleasure palaces in Europe. The palace is famous for its extraordinarily rich interiors, which have survived almost unchanged for more than 300 years. Visitors can admire magnificent frescoes, ornate plasterwork, colourful imitation-marble floors, embroidered wall hangings, and exquisite furniture that reflect the luxury of the early 18th century. One of the most remarkable rooms is the spectacular Florentine Cabinet, the only room of its kind in Europe to remain in its original state. Its walls are covered with hundreds of intricate panels crafted from marble, granite, and semi-precious stones, creating a dazzling display of colour and craftsmanship. Another highlight is the famous Hall of Mirrors, while the unusual Sala Terrena extends through multiple floors of the building and showcases beautifully decorated ceramic tiles. The margravine’s luxurious bedroom and private apartments offer a fascinating glimpse into aristocratic life during the Baroque era.
