Stadtmuseum Baden-Baden

About

Located on the famous Lichtentaler Allee in the heart of Baden-Baden, the Stadtmuseum Baden-Baden offers a fascinating journey through more than 2,000 years of local history. Housed in the elegant historic Alleehaus, the museum tells the story of how a small Roman settlement grew into one of Europe’s most celebrated spa destinations and a meeting place for royalty, artists, and aristocrats. The permanent exhibition takes visitors from the city’s Roman origins to its golden age in the nineteenth century, when Baden-Baden became known as the “Summer Capital of Europe.” Through historical artifacts, paintings, documents, and decorative objects, the museum reveals how the thermal springs shaped the city’s development and attracted famous visitors from across the continent. Among the highlights are exhibits dedicated to Baden-Baden’s long spa and bathing tradition, showcasing the importance of its healing waters throughout the centuries. Visitors can also explore displays illustrating the glamorous Belle Époque period, when elegant hotels, casinos, concerts, and social gatherings transformed the town into one of Europe’s most fashionable destinations.
