Victoria Park Cardiff

About

Victoria Park, in the Canton district of Cardiff, is one of the city’s most cherished Victorian-era parks, opened in 1897 to mark Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. Covering nearly 20 acres, it retains much of its original charm with colourful seasonal flowerbeds, mature trees, and wide, welcoming paths. The park’s Grade II-listed features include a cast-iron bandstand and an ornate fountain canopy, both restored to preserve their historic character. A focal point for families, it offers a popular children’s play area and a modern splashpad with interactive water features, replacing the former paddling pool. The bronze sculpture of “Billy the Seal” recalls the park’s small zoo and its most famous resident from the early 20th century. Tennis courts, sports facilities, and open lawns provide space for leisure and events, while its Green Flag Award reflects its high standards of care. Blending heritage, horticulture, and community life, Victoria Park remains a vibrant and much-loved green space in Cardiff.
