The Gate

About

The Gate Arts Centre, set in a beautifully restored Grade II listed former Presbyterian church in Roath, has been a vibrant hub for creativity and community since opening in 2004. Its striking Gothic architecture, complete with original pews, carved pulpit, and stained glass, provides a unique backdrop for a diverse programme of events. The Grand Theatre hosts live music, drama, and dance, while gallery spaces showcase contemporary art from Wales and beyond. A dance studio, workshop rooms, and a welcoming café bar make it a place to create as well as to enjoy the arts. Rooted in its local community, The Gate offers classes, outreach projects, and festivals that bring people together, reflecting its founding vision as a “gift to the community.” Whether attending a folk concert, exploring an exhibition, or joining a creative course, visitors find an inspiring space where heritage and modern culture meet in the heart of Cardiff.
