Church of the Saviour

The Church of St. George in Sopot is one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks, rising above the entrance to the famous Monte Cassino promenade. Built between 1899 and 1901 in striking Neo‑Gothic style, it was originally a Protestant temple before becoming a Catholic garrison church after 1945. Its tall brick tower, designed to be visible from the sea, reflects the ambitions of its imperial patrons and remains a defining feature of the skyline. The interior combines historic elements with later additions, including stained‑glass windows and devotional artworks that create a serene, contemplative atmosphere. In front of the church stands a charming early‑20th‑century chapel, adding to the site’s character. Today, the Church of St. George serves both the local parish and the military community, offering a place of worship and a distinctive architectural presence in the heart of Sopot.
