Jardin Botanique de Genève

About

Jardin Botanique de Genève blends scientific heritage with serene lakeside beauty. Founded in 1904, it serves as both a public garden and a living research collection, home to more than 12,000 plant species. One of its most intriguing features is the historic Winter Garden, a graceful glass pavilion sheltering tropical and subtropical plants that once symbolised Geneva’s global botanical ambitions. Nearby, the Ariane Greenhouses recreate climates from arid deserts to humid rainforests, offering a compact journey across continents. Outdoors, the Rock Garden showcases alpine flora arranged along winding paths, while the Systematic Garden presents plants by botanical family, revealing the logic behind plant evolution. The Ethnobotanical Garden highlights species used by different cultures for medicine, food, and rituals, adding a human dimension to the landscape. A small Animal Park with deer and waterfowl adds charm, especially for families. Scattered sculptures and the elegant Herbarium building remind visitors of the garden’s scientific role, housing one of Switzerland’s largest botanical collections.
