Karlovac City Museum

Karlovac City Museum, housed in the elegant 17th‑century Vukasović Palace, offers a vivid journey through the layered history of this star‑shaped fortress town. Its location is part of the charm: the palace once stood at the heart of Karlovac’s military and administrative life, and traces of its original Baroque architecture still frame the museum’s modern displays. Inside, the archaeological collection reveals Karlovac’s deep past, from prehistoric settlements to Roman artefacts found along ancient trade routes. One of the most interesting items is a perfectly preserved Bronze Age sword, discovered near the Kupa River and showcasing the region’s early craftsmanship. The museum also highlights Karlovac’s unique urban plan—one of the few Renaissance “ideal cities” in Europe—through detailed models and maps that show its six‑pointed star layout.
