Kraljevića Kula

Kraljevića Kula is the most atmospheric remnant of medieval Višegrad, a hilltop tower that once formed part of a larger fortification guarding the Drina valley. Although its exact origins are debated, the structure is commonly linked to the medieval Bosnian nobility—hence the name “Kraljevića,” meaning “Prince’s Tower.” Its commanding position above the town made it a natural lookout, controlling movement along the river and the old caravan routes. Inside, the tower is simple but evocative. Thick stone walls and narrow openings reveal its defensive purpose, while the interior chamber—now roofless—offers a striking view framed by centuries‑old masonry. One of the most interesting details is the preserved entrance passage, built with angled stones that strengthened the structure against attacks. The climb to the tower is steep, but the reward is a panoramic sweep over Višegrad, the Drina, and the surrounding hills. The site also carries a layer of legend. Local stories speak of noble families, hidden treasures, and secret tunnels leading toward the river, adding a touch of folklore to the historical ruin.
