The Permanent Archaeological Exhibition of the Museum of Ponišavlje is located inside the historic Pirot Fortress complex, known as Momčilov Grad, along Takovska street in Pirot, Serbia. Because the exhibition is set right inside Pirot Fortress, you are already standing at one of the city's most impressive historic sites. The restored 14th-century stone fortress features formidable defense walls, grand towers, and peaceful walking trails throughout the surrounding park grounds. Just a short walk across the river brings you to the main building of the Museum of Ponišavlje, located at Nikole Pašića 49. Housed in the famous 1848 Balkan-Ottoman mansion of Mali Rista, it showcases traditional Pirot kilim rugs, carved ceilings, and ethnographic exhibits. Also nearby in the town center is the Church of the Nativity of Christ, an important 19th-century Orthodox sanctuary with beautiful artwork. For a scenic walk, you can stroll along the nearby Nišava River promenade, a leafy quay shaded by linden trees with quiet paths and cozy local cafes.
