Lincolnshire Road Transport Museum is one of the county’s most nostalgic attractions, celebrating over a century of motoring and public transport history. Run by dedicated volunteers, it holds an impressive collection of more than 60 vehicles — an interesting fact is that several of them once served the streets of Lincoln, including buses that carried passengers through the city decades ago. The museum’s setting in a former bus depot adds an authentic industrial atmosphere. Inside, visitors can explore a wide range of historic vehicles. The fleet includes vintage cars, motorcycles, commercial vans and beautifully restored buses from the 1920s to the 1980s. One highlight is the green Lincoln Corporation double‑decker, a local icon preserved with its original signage. Classic British marques such as Austin, Ford and Morris appear throughout the galleries, offering a snapshot of everyday motoring across generations. The workshop area reveals how volunteers restore and maintain the collection, with tools, parts and half‑completed projects showing the craft behind preservation. Displays of transport memorabilia — ticket machines, uniforms, maps and enamel signs — add colour and context to the vehicles on show.

The museum is the Lincolnshire Road Transport Museum, located at Whisby Road, North Hykeham, Lincoln LN6 3QT. It is just south west of Lincoln city centre, on the road out towards Whisby. It is run by volunteers and is housed in a big shed full of restored buses, cars and commercial vehicles going back over 80 years. You can hop on some of them too when they do running days. Because it is on the edge of Lincoln, you are close to a lot of other things. The city centre itself is only about ten minutes drive, so you can easily combine it with Lincoln Cathedral, Lincoln Castle and the Medieval Bishops' Palace up on the hill. Even closer, you have Whisby Nature Park right next door, which is great for a walk around the lakes and for wildlife. Hartsholme Country Park and the waterfront at Brayford Pool are not far either. If you want more museums, The Collection, the Usher Art Gallery and the Museum of Lincolnshire Life are all in Lincoln, and the International Bomber Command Centre is just on the other side of town at Canwick Hill.
