Thorpe Camp Visitor Centre occupies the surviving buildings of RAF Woodhall Spa, once home to 97, 619 and the famed 617 “Dambusters” Squadron. The site retains an authentic wartime atmosphere, with original huts restored to house exhibitions on aircrew life, local history and the broader story of Lincolnshire’s role as “Bomber County”. Inside, visitors can explore rooms filled with uniforms, mission logs, aircraft parts and personal belongings that reveal the daily routines and pressures of wartime service. A standout display focuses on the Dambusters’ later operations from Woodhall Spa, including the Tallboy and Grand Slam missions that targeted heavily fortified sites. Another hut is dedicated to the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, highlighting the essential work of plotters, drivers and mechanics. The centre also preserves a recreated NAAFI, complete with period décor, offering a glimpse into off‑duty life on the station. Outdoors, memorials honour the squadrons that served here, while information boards guide visitors around the remaining airfield structures.
