Inside, the museum unfolds through a series of themed rooms. One of the most charming is the recreated Richmond grocer’s shop, complete with original counters, tins, jars, and packaging that evoke shopping in the early 20th century. The Leadmining Gallery explores one of the region’s most important historic industries, displaying tools, maps, and artefacts that reveal the tough working conditions in Swaledale’s mines. A highlight is the Herriot Room, dedicated to James Herriot and the filming of All Creatures Great and Small. Costumes, props, and photographs offer a nostalgic glimpse into the beloved series and its connection to the Dales. The museum also preserves items linked to Richmond’s military history, including displays on the local regiment and wartime life.
