The Royal Pump Room Museum in Harrogate preserves the elegant yet curious world of Victorian spa culture, centred on the town’s famous sulphur wells. One of its most striking facts is that Harrogate’s waters were once considered among the strongest sulphur springs in Europe, attracting visitors from across the country to “take the waters” for ailments ranging from gout to digestive troubles.
