Fleet Air Arm Museum

The Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton is one of Somerset’s most dynamic heritage attractions, offering an immersive journey through more than a century of naval aviation. As Europe’s largest naval aviation museum, it houses an extraordinary collection of aircraft, technology and personal stories that chart the evolution of flying at sea. One of the most impressive experiences is Hall 3, where visitors step onto a full‑scale replica of the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal. Through sound, lighting and film, the museum recreates the tension and precision of a real flight deck, complete with aircraft poised for launch. It’s one of the closest experiences to standing on an active carrier without leaving dry land. The museum’s aircraft collection spans early biplanes to modern jets. Highlights include the Fairey Swordfish, famous for its role in the sinking of the Bismarck, and the Harrier jump jet, a pioneering aircraft capable of vertical take‑off. The Concorde 002 prototype is another standout, allowing visitors to walk through the cabin of Britain’s most iconic supersonic aircraft.
