V&A Dundee is one of Scotland’s most striking modern landmarks, a bold riverside museum designed by Kengo Kuma to resemble the meeting of sea and land. Its dramatic curves and layered concrete panels echo the cliffs of the northeast coast, creating a building that feels sculpted by water and light. Opened in 2018, it is the first V&A museum outside London and a major symbol of Dundee’s cultural renaissance. Inside, visitors can explore the Scottish Design Galleries, a sweeping showcase of creativity across centuries—from medieval metalwork and Jacobite jewellery to contemporary fashion, video‑game design and cutting‑edge engineering. One of the centrepieces is the fully restored Oak Room by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, a dark, atmospheric interior originally created for a Glasgow tearoom and now rebuilt with meticulous detail. Temporary exhibitions bring global design stories to Dundee, ranging from architecture and fashion to photography and digital innovation. Interactive displays, models and multimedia installations make the museum accessible and engaging for all ages.
