Scone Palace

About

Scone Palace, just outside Perth, is one of Scotland’s most symbolically important historic homes, long known as the ancient crowning place of Scottish kings. For centuries, monarchs including Macbeth, Robert the Bruce and Charles II were inaugurated here on the Stone of Destiny. An interesting fact is that the palace still preserves the Moot Hill, the traditional coronation mound, giving visitors a direct link to Scotland’s medieval statehood. Inside, Scone Palace is richly furnished with art, tapestries and antiques collected by the Murray family. The State Rooms display fine French furniture, Meissen porcelain and portraits that trace the lineage of the Earls of Mansfield. The Long Gallery, once used for indoor exercise during bad weather, is one of the longest rooms of its kind in Scotland and features striking 17th‑century panelling. A highlight is the needlework of Mary, Queen of Scots, preserved in the palace’s collection and offering a rare glimpse into her personal artistry. Visitors can also explore the library, filled with historic volumes, and the Victorian dining room, set for grand entertaining.
