Rotes Haus

Rotes Haus, or the Red House, is one of Vaduz’s most distinctive landmarks, known for its deep red façade and picturesque setting amid vineyards. Built in 1338, the complex includes a stepped-gable residence, a four-story residential tower, and a historic wine press building known as the Torkelhaus. The tower’s natural stone exterior and pyramid-shaped roof reflect medieval craftsmanship, while the ensemble’s evolution over centuries adds architectural depth. Owned by the Rheinberger family since 1807, the property was expanded by artist and architect Egon Rheinberger in the early 1900s, who unified the buildings and enhanced their design. Though not open to the public, the Red House remains a visual icon of Vaduz, offering scenic views and a glimpse into Liechtenstein’s cultural heritage. A nearby fresco recalls a local legend tied to the house’s history, adding a layer of folklore to its charm. Its location in Mitteldorf, the old village center, makes it a popular stop for visitors exploring the capital’s quieter, historic corners.
