Archäologisches Museum Colombischlössle

About

The Archaeological Museum Colombischlössle in Freiburg im Breisgau offers a fascinating journey through more than 100,000 years of human history. Housed in the enchanting Colombischlössle, a neo-Gothic villa built in the 19th century and surrounded by a small park, the museum combines an elegant architectural setting with some of the most important archaeological discoveries from southwestern Germany. One of the museum’s most interesting features is its extensive collection covering the Stone Age, Bronze Age, Celtic period, Roman era, and the early Middle Ages. Through carefully presented artifacts, visitors can trace the development of human societies from prehistoric hunters and gatherers to the complex civilizations that shaped the Upper Rhine region. Inside, visitors can admire beautifully crafted tools, weapons, jewelry, pottery, and household objects that reveal how people lived thousands of years ago. Particularly impressive are the prehistoric treasures, including finely worked stone implements and ornaments that demonstrate the remarkable skills of ancient communities. The museum also showcases Celtic artifacts that provide insight into one of Europe’s most influential early cultures.
