About

The Victoria Art Gallery, located near Pulteney Bridge in the heart of Bath, is a public art museum housed in a striking Grade II* listed building designed by John McKean Brydon in 1897. Opened in 1900 to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, the gallery features a statue of the monarch and classical friezes on its façade. Inside, it holds over 1,500 works of art, including British oil paintings from the 17th century to the present day, with notable pieces by Gainsborough, Sickert, and Barker. The gallery is managed by Bath & North East Somerset Council and offers a mix of permanent displays and temporary exhibitions. Its recently restored Upper Gallery is free to enter and showcases highlights from the collection in a light-filled, historic setting. The Victoria Art Gallery remains a vibrant cultural venue, celebrating Bath’s artistic heritage while engaging contemporary audiences through exhibitions, events, and educational programmes.
