Rhubaba Gallery and Studios is an artist-run organisation based in Edinburgh, founded in 2009 to support early-career artists and foster experimental contemporary art. Originally established by graduates of Edinburgh College of Art, Rhubaba began as a response to the lack of studio space for emerging practitioners and quickly evolved into a platform for both production and presentation. After relocating to Leith in 2010, it expanded to include permanent studios and a gallery space, hosting exhibitions, performances, and collaborative projects with local and international partners. Rhubaba’s programming has featured artists such as Ed Atkins, Benedict Drew, and Serena Korda, and has partnered with institutions including Camden Art Centre and Filmhouse Edinburgh. Though its physical space closed in 2021, Rhubaba continues to operate through online and in-person initiatives, maintaining its commitment to artist development and critical dialogue. Managed by a rotating committee and supported by a board of creative professionals, Rhubaba remains a vital force in Scotland’s artist-led landscape.
