Giardini Napoleonici
Created during the early 19th century as part of Napoleon’s urban redesign of Venice, the Giardini Napoleonici form one of the city’s most historic green spaces. Today they are best known as part of the broader Biennale Gardens, yet they retain their own identity as a peaceful, tree‑lined retreat near the eastern edge of Castello. Wide paths, shaded lawns, and glimpses of the lagoon make the gardens a welcome contrast to the dense streets nearby. Over time, the area has become closely linked to the Venice Biennale, hosting national pavilions and seasonal exhibitions that animate the landscape with contemporary art. Even outside festival periods, the Giardini Napoleonici offer a calm, atmospheric setting where visitors can pause, wander, and enjoy a rare expanse of greenery in the heart of Venice.

This expansive green space hosts the Venice Biennale's permanent national pavilions and lies near the Riva dei Sette Martiri waterfront, a short walk from the Arsenale, Giardini vaporetto stop, Via Garibaldi's lively residential streets, the Monument to the Partisan, and pathways leading toward Sant'Elena island and the Biennale exhibition areas.
