Ponte dei Tre Archi is one of the most distinctive bridges in Venice and the only surviving multi‑arched bridge in the city. Spanning the Cannaregio Canal, it was built in 1688 and immediately stood out for its elegant sequence of three arches, a design once more common in Venice but now unique. The bridge connects two lively neighbourhoods and offers atmospheric views of everyday life along the canal, from passing boats to the colourful façades that line the water. Its stone structure, decorative details, and unusual form make it both a practical crossing and a striking architectural landmark. Ponte dei Tre Archi remains a reminder of Venice’s historic engineering traditions and a quiet, characterful spot away from the city’s busiest routes.
Venice Italy
Ponte dei Tre Archi spans the Cannaregio Canal in Venice's Cannaregio sestiere, positioned midway along the waterway near the historic church of San Giobbe, linking Fondamenta San Giobbe on one side with Fondamenta di Sacca San Girolamo on the other. This elegant Baroque stone bridge, designed by Andrea Tirali in 1688 with its distinctive three arches—two smaller flanking a larger central span—stands as Venice's sole surviving example of such architecture, offering serene canal views away from tourist crowds. Nearby attractions include the Renaissance Chiesa di San Giobbe, Parco Savorgnan green space, the former municipal slaughterhouse now repurposed for university use, vaporetto stops at San Marcuola or San Stae for easy access, and pedestrian paths through authentic Cannaregio neighborhoods toward the Jewish Ghetto, Strada Nova, or Grand Canal bridges like Ponte delle Guglie.
