The fort’s concrete bunkers, tunnels and gun positions remain largely intact, offering visitors a vivid sense of the scale and purpose of the wartime installations. Torgauten Fort is located at Hubuktaveien in Gressvik, a coastal neighborhood just west of Fredrikstad center near the Øyenkilen bay along the Glomma River's western entrance, offering panoramic views of the Oslofjord and Vesterelven river estuary. This World War II coastal fortification, built by Germans in 1941 as part of the extensive Atlantic Wall defenses to protect Oslofjord from Allied incursions, now stands as a well-preserved military heritage site with guided summer tours revealing its authentic wartime landscape of gun emplacements, underground tunnels, bunkers, infantry trenches, and terrain-adapted fortifications carved into rocky cliffs and natural gorges like the famous "Skamsklove" access cave. Nearby attractions blend wartime history, natural beauty, and Fredrikstad's core charm within short drives or bus rides from the center.
