Stockwood Discovery Centre is located in Stockwood Park on London Road, on the southern edge of Bedford, Bedfordshire, England. Set within a Victorian walled garden and parkland, the centre explores local history, archaeology, and rural life. It’s best known for the Mossman Carriage Collection, one of the largest collections of horse-drawn vehicles in Europe, along with galleries on Bedford’s trades, crafts, and geology. The Period Gardens re-create different styles from Elizabethan to World War II Dig for Victory, and there’s a sensory garden, café, and play area on site. Admission is free. The centre sits inside Stockwood Park, a 200-acre public park with open fields, sports pitches, woodland walks, and a golf course, making it popular for picnics and family days out. From here you’re only a few minutes from central Bedford. The Higgins Bedford museum and art gallery on Castle Lane holds Bloomsbury Group art, local history, and archaeology, while Castle Mound next door offers views over the town.
