Saulė Concert Hall

About

Saulė Concert Hall is one of Šiauliai’s key cultural venues, known for its warm acoustics and its role as a creative hub for the region. Built in 1977 and later modernised, the hall reflects the architectural style of late Soviet modernism, softened by contemporary upgrades that improved sound quality and audience comfort. Its name—“Saulė,” meaning “sun”—echoes Šiauliai’s historic association with the Battle of the Sun and the city’s emblem. Inside, the main auditorium seats more than a thousand visitors and is praised for its balanced acoustics, making it a preferred stage for orchestral concerts, theatre productions, and major festivals. The hall is home to the Šiauliai State Chamber Choir “Polifonija,” whose performances highlight the venue’s clarity of sound. Visitors can also explore smaller spaces used for exhibitions, chamber music, and community events, giving the building a lively, multifunctional character. An interesting detail is the hall’s long tradition of hosting international music competitions and youth arts programmes, which helped shape Šiauliai’s cultural identity during decades of change. Today, its blend of history, modernisation, and artistic energy makes Saulė Concert Hall a central meeting point for the city’s creative life.
