VUŠA Botanical Garden

About

The VUŠA Botanical Garden in Šiauliai is a peaceful green enclave where science, education and landscape design meet. Established by Vilnius University Šiauliai Academy, it focuses on plant research and conservation, yet remains wonderfully accessible to visitors who want to explore themed collections in a calm, structured environment. The garden’s most engaging feature is its diversity: more than a thousand plant species arranged in zones that highlight Lithuania’s native flora, medicinal plants, and ornamental varieties. The dendrological section showcases rare trees and shrubs, while seasonal displays—spring bulbs, summer perennials, autumn grasses—create a changing rhythm throughout the year. A small but charming rock garden introduces alpine species adapted to harsh climates. Inside the greenhouses, visitors encounter tropical and subtropical plants, including succulents, orchids and economically important crops that reveal the global importance of botany. Educational installations explain plant adaptation, pollination and ecological balance, making the garden especially appealing for families and students. What makes the VUŠA Botanical Garden particularly interesting is its role as a living laboratory. Ongoing research projects, seed banks and conservation initiatives highlight the region’s commitment to biodiversity. Quiet paths, benches and curated viewpoints turn the garden into a reflective space as much as a scientific one.
