Poetry Park

About

Poetry Park in Marijampolė is one of the city’s most distinctive cultural green spaces, created to celebrate literature, creativity and the region’s strong poetic tradition. Developed along the Šešupė River, the park blends nature with art, turning a simple riverside path into an open‑air gallery of words and ideas. One interesting fact is that many of the poems displayed here were written by authors connected to Suvalkija, making the park both a literary tribute and a local heritage site. Inside the park, visitors encounter poetic inscriptions engraved on stones, benches and small sculptural elements. These verses appear unexpectedly along the paths, encouraging slow walking and quiet reflection. The park also features themed zones dedicated to different writers, as well as small artistic installations that change with cultural events. In spring and summer, the blooming riverbank creates a picturesque backdrop for readings, festivals and community gatherings.
