The Diecézne múzeum, or Diocesan Museum, is located in the Upper Town of Nitra, Slovakia, right inside the grounds of Nitra Castle. You’ll find it in the Bishop’s Palace, one of the historic buildings within the castle complex. The museum showcases the rich Christian heritage of the Nitra Diocese, with treasures like the Nitra Gospel Book from 1083, liturgical vestments, medieval sculptures, and goldsmith works collected from churches across the region. From the castle grounds you get excellent views over the old town and the surrounding hills. After visiting the museum, several key attractions are just a short walk away. Nitra Castle itself is the main landmark, with its Gothic Cathedral of St. Emmeram, the oldest part dating back to the 11th century. The cathedral’s upper and lower churches, crypt, and fortress walls are open to visitors. Steps from the museum are the Castle Stairs leading down to the Lower Town, where you’ll reach the Corgoň Statue and the pedestrian zone with cafés and shops. Nearby is also the Nitra Calvary, a peaceful hilltop complex of chapels with panoramic views over the city. For nature, Zobor Hill is visible from the castle and offers hiking trails and the old Zobor Monastery ruins.
