Panayot Volov House Museum

Panayot Volov House Museum in Shumen preserves the memory of one of Bulgaria’s most passionate revolutionaries, offering visitors an intimate look at the life behind the legend. The house, a typical 19th‑century urban home, reflects the atmosphere of the Bulgarian National Revival with its wooden ceilings, compact rooms and quiet courtyard. It was here that Volov spent part of his youth before becoming a leading figure in the April Uprising of 1876. Inside, the museum’s most compelling feature is the reconstructed living room, arranged with authentic furniture and household items that evoke the daily life of a family deeply connected to education and civic activity. The exhibition includes Volov’s personal belongings—letters, notebooks and a rare photograph that captures his determined expression. One particularly interesting object is his school medal, a reminder that before becoming a revolutionary, Volov was an outstanding student and teacher.
