Inside the main station at Pitsford and Brampton, visitors can explore traditional waiting rooms, period signage and a small but engaging museum display featuring tools, photographs and railway artefacts from the line’s working years. The restored signal box is a highlight, showing the mechanical levers and instruments that once controlled traffic along the route. The real charm lies in the heritage train rides. Steam and diesel locomotives run on selected days, offering short journeys through rural countryside that evoke mid‑20th‑century travel. Each train carries its own character, from polished brass fittings to wooden‑panelled interiors that recall classic British rail design.

It is based at the old Pitsford and Brampton station on the former Northampton to Market Harborough line and is run by volunteers with steam and heritage diesel locos, vintage carriages and working signal boxes. Because you are in the Brampton Valley, you have some great places right on your doorstep. The Brampton Valley Way runs right past the station, perfect for walking and cycling along the old railway trackbed. A short drive away is Pitsford Water Park and Nature Reserve with sailing, bird hides and lovely waterside walks, and Brixworth Country Park is close too. For museums and grand houses, you are spoiled. Lamport Hall with its beautiful gardens is just up the road, and Althorp House, the Spencer family estate, is nearby. In Northampton itself you have Abington Park Museum in a historic manor, Delapre Abbey with its house and walled gardens, and Northampton Museum and Art Gallery. Castle Ashby House and Gardens and Canons Ashby, a gorgeous Elizabethan manor, are both within easy reach, and if you like aviation, Sywell Aviation Museum at Sywell Aerodrome is only a short drive away.
