The Church of Our Saviour (Vor Frelsers Kirke) in Copenhagen is renowned for its striking helix spire with an external winding staircase, offering brave visitors panoramic views of the city after a climb of around 400 steps. The last 150 steps spiral around the outside, a unique and somewhat daunting experience! Inside this Dutch Baroque church, consecrated in 1696, you can admire a magnificent baroque altar dating back to 1695, depicting the scene of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. The impressive organ from 1698, built by the Botzen Brothers, is a significant feature, boasting a detailed facade and over 4000 pipes; it's one of the oldest in the world still in use and concerts are often held. Look out for the forty elephants incorporated into the church's decor, symbolizing the absolute monarchy and the Order of the Elephant, the highest order in Denmark. The church's architecture, with its Greek cross layout and red and yellow brickwork, is also noteworthy.
