The medieval Stadtmauer of Magdeburg once encircled the city as a formidable line of defense. First constructed in the 13th century, it was expanded over the following centuries to protect against threats ranging from Hussite incursions to the growing power of artillery. The wall was reinforced with towers such as the Tatarenturm, dating to the early 13th century, and the Fürstenwall, built around 1430. These structures not only safeguarded the city but also symbolized its resilience during turbulent times. Though much of the fortification was dismantled in the 19th century, several sections remain visible today, including preserved stretches near the Gustav-Adolf-Straße and the Dom.
