Nestled along the banks of the Elbe, Klosterbergegarten is one of Magdeburg’s most historic green spaces and the second oldest public park in Germany. Established between 1825 and 1829 on the grounds of the former Benedictine monastery Berge, the park was designed by renowned landscape architect Peter Joseph Lenné. His vision combined harmony between nature, art, and urban life, incorporating diverse plantings, sweeping views of the river, and the city skyline. At its heart stands the Gesellschaftshaus, designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, which continues to serve as a cultural venue. Originally spanning 30 hectares, the park now covers about 11 hectares, offering tranquil paths, lawns, and historic features that reflect its long legacy. Today, Klosterbergegarten remains a cherished retreat for residents and visitors alike, blending centuries of history with the beauty of a living landscape.
