Puerta del Mar
The Puerta del Mar is one of Valencia’s most recognisable urban landmarks, standing at the junction of several major avenues and marking a symbolic gateway to the historic centre. Although it resembles an ancient triumphal arch, the structure is actually a 20th‑century reconstruction inspired by the original city gate that once formed part of Valencia’s medieval walls. Its neoclassical design, with clean lines and a central arch flanked by two smaller openings, gives it a dignified, monumental presence amid the modern traffic. The monument also serves as a memorial, featuring sculptural elements that honour those who fell during past conflicts.
