Jardín del Turia
The Jardín del Turia is one of Valencia’s greatest public spaces, a vast green park that stretches for kilometres along the former riverbed of the Turia. After a devastating flood in 1957, the river was diverted and the dry channel was transformed into an urban garden, creating a unique landscape that winds through the city like a natural corridor. Today, the park is filled with sports fields, playgrounds, ponds, shaded paths and lush vegetation, offering a peaceful retreat for walkers, cyclists and families. Iconic landmarks such as the City of Arts and Sciences, the Palau de la Música and several historic bridges rise along its length, blending culture, architecture and nature. The Jardín del Turia stretches 9 kilometers through central Valencia along the former riverbed of the Turia River, diverted south after the devastating 1957 flood, transforming the dry channel into Spain's largest urban park spanning 136 hectares from the Parque de Cabecera in the west near Bioparc zoo to the eastern end by Passeig de l'Albereda beside the Oceanogràfic. This green ribbon bisects the city with diverse zones for cycling, jogging, picnics, and play, including Gulliver Park's giant climbing structures, passing under 18 bridges near landmarks like the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences (Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències), Palau de la Música concert hall, Viveros botanic gardens, and the historic old town core—all connected by paths ideal for leisurely exploration amid bridges, ponds, and sports facilities.
