Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk in Apeldoorn, also known as the Mariakerk, is a striking neo‑Gothic church that has shaped the city’s Catholic heritage for more than a century. Built between 1895 and 1901, it was designed initially by architect J.W. Boerbooms and later completed by Jos Cuypers and Jan Stuyt after Boerbooms’ death. Its elegant brickwork, tall pointed arches, and richly decorated interior reflect influences from late Rhine Gothic traditions. The church replaced an earlier 1846 building and has since become the spiritual heart of the Emmaüs parish, remaining the only active Catholic church in Apeldoorn after 2013. Inside, visitors find a serene atmosphere enhanced by stained‑glass windows, a beautifully crafted altar by F.W. Mengelberg, and refined architectural details that highlight the craftsmanship of its era. Standing prominently on the Hoofdstraat, Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk continues to serve as both a place of worship and a cherished monument in Apeldoorn’s cultural landscape.
