Sofiero Palace is one of Helsingborg’s most enchanting landmarks, a former royal summer residence set on a hillside overlooking the Öresund. Built in the 1860s and later gifted to Crown Prince Gustaf Adolf and Princess Margareta, the palace became famous for its gardens, especially the vast rhododendron ravines that burst into colour each spring. The surrounding park blends formal design with natural woodland paths, creating a landscape that feels both elegant and intimate. Inside, exhibitions explore the royal family’s life at Sofiero and the estate’s transformation into a public treasure. Today the palace is a place for leisurely walks, seasonal displays, and cultural events, offering visitors a serene escape just minutes from the city. Sofiero Palace is located just north of Helsingborg in southern Sweden, about 5 kilometres from the city centre, in the area of Sofierovägen. Nearby, the main attraction is the palace’s own famous gardens, which are one of the biggest reasons to visit. The grounds are known for their rhododendron displays, flower beds, green lawns, and views over the Öresund toward Denmark, making the setting feel both elegant and scenic. In the wider area, visitors can also explore Helsingborg’s coastal sights, the city centre, and Landborg Promenade, a popular walking route that stretches through the city and connects well with Sofiero.
