Kėdainiai City Park

About

Kėdainiai City Park is one of the town’s most inviting green spaces, shaped over the 19th and 20th centuries as a civic garden for leisure and community life. Its layout still reflects the classic park‑design principles of the era: winding paths, open lawns, and clusters of mature trees that create a calm, shaded atmosphere. The park’s oldest oaks and maples are among its quiet treasures, some predating the modern city itself. A central feature is the small pond, once part of an ornamental water system, now home to ducks and a favourite spot for families. Scattered through the park are sculptures and memorials that highlight Kėdainiai’s multicultural heritage, including pieces dedicated to local historical figures and cultural traditions. The bandstand area, used for concerts and public events, adds a lively contrast to the park’s peaceful corners. Visitors can enjoy flowerbeds that change with the seasons, children’s play areas, and long alleys ideal for slow walks. Kėdainiai City Park remains a gentle, lived‑in space where history, nature, and everyday life meet.

Location

Kėdainiai City Park (also called Kėdainiai Town Park) is located in the heart of Kėdainiai, one of Lithuania’s oldest towns on the Nevėžis River. The park sits on the grounds of the former Kėdainiai Manor homestead, with its main entrance on J. Basanavičiaus Street. It is just a short walk from the train station, across a railway crossing, and is one of the first landscape parks in Lithuania, dating back to the 19th century. The park covers 37.26 hectares and is known for its scenic pathways, mature trees, and historic manor remains. The most famous landmark inside the park is the Kėdainiai Minaret, an unusual 28-meter Ottoman-style tower built in 1880 as an ornamental observation tower. The minaret itself is one of the most unique sights in the town. Nearby, visitors can explore Kėdainiai Old Town, one of only four preserved Old Towns in Lithuania, with its medieval brick streets, market squares, and historic buildings. Key attractions within walking distance include St. Joseph’s Church, the Evangelical Reformed Church with the Radziwill family mausoleum, Arnett’s House (a 17th-century Scottish merchant’s building now a crafts centre), the Lutheran Church with unique wall paintings, and the Kėdainiai Regional Museum.
