Engadiner Museum

Engadiner Museum is one of St. Moritz’s most atmospheric cultural landmarks, a place where the traditional life of the Engadin valley is preserved with remarkable authenticity. Founded in 1906, the museum was designed to resemble a classic Engadin farmhouse, complete with thick stone walls, carved wooden ceilings, and the iconic Stüva—a warm, wood‑panelled living room that once formed the heart of alpine homes. Inside, visitors can explore more than twenty rooms arranged like a historical journey. One of the most interesting facts is that many interiors were transplanted from actual Engadin houses, allowing you to step directly into centuries‑old domestic spaces. The collection includes intricately painted chests, ceremonial costumes, and everyday tools that reveal how families lived, worked, and celebrated in this high‑altitude region. A highlight is the Arvenholz (Swiss stone pine) craftsmanship, whose scent still lingers in the rooms. The museum also showcases religious folk art, traditional ovens, and beautifully decorated tiled stoves that once provided essential winter warmth.
