Mestni Park, or City Park, is located just north of Celje’s city center, along the left bank of the Savinja River. It’s the city’s main green space, with tree-lined paths, lawns, playgrounds, and sports areas. The park is popular for walks, jogging, and family outings, and it connects directly to the riverside promenade. Shaded benches and open fields make it a relaxing break from the urban core. From the park you can quickly reach Celje’s historic sights. A short walk south takes you to Krekov trg and the Parish Church of St. Joseph, next to the Celje National Hall. Continue to Muzejski trg, home to the Regional Museum of Celje in the Princely Palace and Old Counts’ Mansion. Here you’ll find the “Celeia – City Beneath the City” archaeological site, with Roman streets and mosaics under glass, plus the Celje Ceiling. Nearby is the Celje Museum of Recent History with Herman’s Den, a favorite for kids. Prešernova ulica, the main pedestrian street with cafés, shops, the Town Hall, and Celje Cathedral, is also close by.
