Knežji dvorec, or the Princely Palace, is located on Muzejski trg in the center of Celje. This late-Gothic and Renaissance palace was once the residence of the powerful Counts of Celje, the most influential noble family in medieval Slovenia. Today it’s part of the Regional Museum of Celje and houses major exhibitions on the city’s history, from Roman Celeia to the Counts’ era. The highlight is the Celje Ceiling, a magnificent painted Baroque hall, and the Roman lapidarium in the palace basement. Because it sits in Celje’s Old Town, you’re surrounded by history.
