Church of St. George Kruševac

Church of St. George in Kruševac is one of the city’s most elegant 20th‑century sacred landmarks, built between 1904 and 1908 as a tribute to Serbia’s medieval heritage. Although younger than Lazarica, it echoes Moravian architectural motifs while blending them with academic Serbian‑Byzantine style. Its tall dome and finely carved stone details make it a visual anchor of the modern city center. Inside, the church impresses with a rich iconostasis crafted by master woodcarvers, featuring icons painted in the traditional Orthodox manner. The fresco program is particularly interesting: completed in the mid‑20th century, it combines classical composition with subtle modern influences, creating a warm, luminous interior. Visitors often pause before the large icon of St. George, celebrated as the protector of warriors and a symbol of courage.
